Birds & Oaks is a place shaped by care, design, and a deep respect for its surroundings. Set within the hills, it brings together thoughtful architecture, natural materials, and spaces that feel lived in rather than arranged.
The Idea
Birds & Oaks began as a simple intention, to create a space that feels complete in itself. Not driven by scale or excess, but by care, proportion, and detail. Every corner has been shaped with a sense of purpose, allowing the property to feel both considered and effortless.
The vision was never just to build a stay, but to shape an environment where design, landscape, and experience come together naturally.
The Name
Surrounded by oak trees and the constant presence of birds across the estate, the name emerged organically from what already existed here. It reflects the character of the land itself, grounded, alive, and ever-changing through the day.
Rather than being imposed, the identity of Birds & Oaks was drawn from its surroundings, making the name feel as natural as the place it represents.
The Architecture
Designed by renowned architect Praveen Vashisht, the architecture draws from classical European influences while remaining deeply rooted in the hillside it inhabits. Stone facades, pitched roofs, and carefully balanced proportions come together to create a structure that feels both timeless and distinct.
Rather than dominating the landscape, the design settles into it, with materials and form working in harmony with the terrain. The result is a space that feels composed, enduring, and quietly striking from every angle.

Core Principles
Thoughtfully integrated into the experience, these principles shape how Birds & Oaks functions behind the scenes, from the materials used and energy systems adopted to the people, produce, and practices that bring the property to life.
Sustainable Design
Much of the stone, wood, and natural material used across the property has been sourced locally and incorporated thoughtfully into the architecture. The design embraces the surrounding landscape naturally, allowing the spaces to feel grounded, connected, and intentionally shaped by the environment they exist within every single day.
Rainwater Harvesting
A rainwater harvesting system has been integrated into the property to responsibly collect and manage seasonal rainfall. Designed as part of the estate’s broader environmental approach, it supports mindful water conservation practices while remaining better suited to the surrounding hillside ecosystem and natural terrain conditions.
Geothermal Heating
The cottages are equipped with geothermal floor heating designed to provide warmth efficiently during colder months. Integrated discreetly into the overall experience, the system creates a consistently comfortable indoor environment while reducing dependence on more intensive heating alternatives commonly used across mountain hospitality properties today.
Natural Skincare
The bath and skincare essentials provided at Birds & Oaks are handmade in Uttarakhand by Nativ Indie using natural, biodegradable, and chemical-free ingredients. Thoughtfully formulated without harsh additives or synthetic fragrances, they reflect a gentler and more conscious approach to everyday personal care experiences here.
Solar Water Heating
Solar-powered water heating systems have been incorporated across the property as part of its long-term sustainable infrastructure. By harnessing natural energy throughout the year, the system supports everyday comfort while encouraging more conscious resource usage through a quieter and environmentally mindful operational approach overall.
Local First
Birds & Oaks is supported by the people and landscape surrounding it closely. Much of the team comes from nearby communities, while fruits, vegetables, and ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible, helping create a hospitality experience that remains deeply connected to the character of the
region itself.
